Today is the Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time; on this date we honorВ Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor (diedВ 430).
Born in 354 in Tagaste, Numidia, North Africa (Souk-Ahras, Algeria) as Aurelius Augustinus, today’s SaintВ was the son of a pagan father.Raised as a Christian by his mother, Saint Monica, he lost his faith in youth and led a wild life, living with a Carthaginian woman from the age of 15 through 30, and fatheringВ a son whom he named Adeotadus, which means «gift of God».He taught rhetoric at Carthage and in Milan, Italy. After investigating and experimenting with several philosophies, he became a Manichaean for several years; it taught of a great struggle between good and evil, and featured a ratherВ lax moral code.Augustine finally broke with the Manichaeans and was converted by the prayers of his mother and the help of Saint Ambrose of Milan, who baptized him.On the death of his mother he returned to Africa, sold his property, gave the proceeds to the poor, and founded a monastery.Becoming a priest and preacher, he was namedВ Bishop of Hippo in 396.He founded religious communities, fought Manichaeism, Donatism, Pelagianism and other heresies, and oversaw his church and his see during the fall of the Roman Empire to the Vandals.Augustine was one of the most prolific Latin authors in terms of surviving works, and the list of his works consists of more than a hundred separate titles.Augustine is probably best known for his Confessiones (Confessions), which is a personal account of his earlier life, and for De civitate dei (Of the City of God, consisting of 22 books), which he wrote to restore the confidence of his fellow Christians, which was badly shaken by the sack of Rome by the Visigoths in 410.In the 11th century the order of Augustinian Monks came into being, claiming lineage from the religious communities founded by Saint Augustine.Augustine was canonized by popular acclaim, and later recognized as a Doctor of the Church in 1298 by Pope Boniface VIII.He is the Patron Saint of brewers, printers, theologians, sore eyes, and a number of cities and dioceses, including the city and diocese of St.Augustine, Florida.
When we got up for work, Michelle was again asleep on the couch. We went to work, and I spent the day as the dealer on Pai-Gow Poker.Tropical Storm Jose formed east of Bermuda at 7:00 am, On my breaks I marked the July 2011 photos, organized the December 2010 photos, and started marking the December 2010 photos. At 10:00 am Hurricane Irene became Tropical Storm Irene.(All day on CNN the only news was Hurricane Irene hitting the East Coast; we in the break room kept asking, what would they have done if Irene had been more than a minimal Category One storm?(At one point Irene had been a Category Three storm, which is four times as bad, roughly, than a Category One storm.)
On our way home from work we stopped at Super 1 Foods for some groceries; once home, I ate my lunch salad and read the Sunday papers.I then took a nap from 1:30 pm to about 6:00 pm, which meant that I did not go to the 6:00 pm Ma*s.I ate my dinner (red beans & rice, and cornbread) and got busy on tonight’s Daily Update. After I am done with today’s Daily Update, I will go watch the first half of the New Orleans Saints versus the Oakland Raiders in their third pre-season game, then I will go to bed.The New Moon will arrive tonight at 10:04 pm.
In the Tropics Tropical Storm Irene is 65 miles south of Rutland, Vermont (which is very far from the Tropics), with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, and moving to the north north-east at 26 miles per hour. The expectation is that the storm will become a post-tropical cyclone later tonight.Tropical Storm Jose is now 80 miles southwest of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour, and moving to the north at 17 miles per hour. The storm is expected to make a turn to the north north-east, to start moving faster, and to weaken. An elongated area of low pressure a*sociated with the remnants of Tropical Depression Ten is producing disorganized weather about 700 miles west north-west of the Cape Verde Islands; the system has a 10 percent chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone within the next 48 hours. Finally, a system about 400 miles south of the Cape Verde Islands is becoming better organized, and has a 70 percent chance of developing into a Tropical Cyclone within the next 48 hours.
Tomorrow being Monday, I will spend my breaks at work marking photos.(There are a lot of December 2010 photos, due to the wedding.) Richard will be fasting to have his blood drawn after work for lab work, with his appointment at the Clinic to go over the lab work on September 9.Once home from work I will do the Weekly Computer Maintenance and do some Advance Daily Update Drafts.
On this Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary TimeВ our Parting Quote comes to us from Paul MacCready, American aeronautical engineer.BornВ Paul B.MacCready, Jr.in 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut, to aВ medical family,В he was an inventor from an early age and won a national contest building a model flying machine at the age of 15.After graduating from high school in 1943 heВ received his BS in physics from Yale University in 1947, a MS in physics from Caltech in 1948, and a PhD in aeronautics from Caltech in 1952.In the meantime, he trained as a US Navy pilot at the end of World War II.Some ofВ his work as a graduate student involved cloud seeding, and in 1951 MacCready founded his first company, Meteorology Research Inc, to do atmospheric research. He had started flying glidersВ after World War II and was a three-time winner (1948, 1949, 1953) of the Richard C.du Pont Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the U.S.National Open Cla*s Soaring Champion. In 1956 he became the first American pilot to become the World Soaring Champion. He devised the MacCready Theory on the correct speed to fly a glider depending on conditions and based on the glider’s rate of sink at different air-speeds.Glider pilots still use the MacCready speed ringВ to maximize the average cross-country speed by optimizing the airspeed in both rising and sinking air.He was the founder (in 1971) and Chairman of AeroVironment Inc., a public company (AVAV) that develops unmanned surveillance aircraft and advance power systems.В With Dr.Peter B.S.Lissaman he created the first practical human-powered aircraft, the Gossamer Condor, and thereby won the Kremer prize in 1977; the seven-and-a-half-minute flight covered a figure-eight course a half-mile long in Shafter, California. The award-winning plane was built out of aluminium tubing, plastic foam, piano wire, bicycle parts, and mylar foil for covering. In 1979, he built its successor, the Gossamer Albatross, which won the second Kremer prize for successfully flying from England to France;В it weighed 70 pounds and had a 96-foot wingspan, and took three hours to make the crossing over the English Channel. He later created solar powered aircraft such as the Gossamer Penguin and the Solar Challenger. He was involved in the development of NASA’s solar-powered flying wings such as the Helios, which surpa*sed the SR-71в
I’m still hanging out at Wegman’s in Landover, Maryland. In the meantime, here’s a video of the most memorable report on Hurricane Irene.Focus carefully on the people darting behind the reporter in this clip.

I think it's ridiculous that she is getting away with murdering her baby, there is no excuse for leaving your child in a car.I can't believe they aren't pressing any charges against her, it really is a sad world we live in.
I believe that you should be a good person and treat people fairly, I don't believe in Jesus, but I do believe in a higher power I just don't think he's pulling any strings.
legleggerz
well i cant really judge her, because i dont know what went through her head that day.maybe she knew that the baby was there maybe but its not for us to judge.its for the Lord to judge and him only.Im a christian, but when ur at Gods presence it doesnt matter wat religion u are.

Speaking in terms of the law, she is at least guilty of Criminal Negligence, Child Endangerment, or Child Neglect. Perhaps even manslaughter. The law should be kept seperate from religion.
She should be prosecuted. Obviously, there was insufficient evidence to prosecute or a quilty verdict could not be accomplished in court.
In the eyes of the law, however, yes, she was guilty.
I am a believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and the One True God.
curls
This is ridiculous, yes she should be prosecuted. Many before her have been prosecuted for the same thing, because it is neglect and abuse to leave a child in a hot car for hours. All she needed was to use common sense.I am atheist.
atheist
Prosecuting someone has less to do with the law or morality than your question implies. Would this mother be sent to jail? Most likely no. The charge would successfully be plea bargained down to no time served, so it would just be a waste of tax payer money.
They would NEVER get her for murder, and manslaughter would be difficult.
The law and morality are not the same.
KC
I am an atheist and I think she should definitely be punished. No good mother would leave a child in a car for eight hours. She deserves to be tried for negligent homicide at the very least. No doubt she feels very guilty but leaving a child alone for that amount of time is pure stupidity.
tremonster
I'm in agreement with most of the answers here. I don't understand how someone can "forget" their child. Granted, I'm probably not a candidate for 'mother of the year', but even I know where my child is at all times and I am constantly aware of her presence. This is not a simple matter of neglect, it is murder. Maybe involuntary, but murder all the same. The maximum penalty should be sought in this case. Either a life or death sentence should be applied to anyone who kills their child with intent or carelessness.MamaBear I disagree with that decision. While accidents can be hard to avoid, this was no accident. This child died as a result of criminal neglect.Should the law care?YES!!!
The purpose of law is to guide an otherwise ignorant society into order (and away from disorder); to teach responsibility and punish the irresponsible; to set standards of behaviour and enforce those standards; to provide for and protect an ordered society, so people can live in it.
This woman violated the most basic standard of her job as a mother: she abdicated from caring for her child, and her child died as a result. Her donuts were more important to her than the life of another human being! The Law, having already established a standard of "neglect of a minor" and levels of criminal neglect, needs to act in this case, or it forfeits its power in society. Why make laws that are not going to be enforced?
We also need to be cautious about the precedents we set in this case.If one woman can ignore her child to death, and call it an "accident", why can't another "accidently" poison her son's dinner, by confusing rat poison for boxed Domino sugar (since the woman with the SUV claimed to have been distracted....)?Why can't a father give his daughter a "much needed spanking", and "accidently" beat her to death? How many things can be written off as "accidents", to avoid prosecution?
I believe this woman should face justice of some type, for her actions (and lack therof) resulted in the ending of a human life. That life was explicitly in HER CARE.At the very least, she should be tried for manslaughter and child neglect. After all, if this is how she cares for someone she is responsible for, how will she act to the rest of society? When she is driving her car, doing her job, etc.?There is no maternal tie between her and the rest of the world, that she should care so much as to be careful...
To fail to provide justice for the most dependent of our citizens is to deny it to us all."If you are faithful with a very little, you will be faithful with much," Jesus said. The reverse is also true.
Christian.

thats pathetic that someone would do that to their child without even thinking it was wrong, for people like this the punishent should be that they are not allowed t have children or before they do they have to attend some type of cla*s.

The highly anticipated new Apple iPhone 5 is almost certainly expected to support both GSM And CDMA from a single phone according to new evidence. The dual-mode iPhone 5 has been rumoured before but now evidence has been discovered in the iPhones app usage log files. An undisclosed iOS developer has contacted and presented information and log files to the Tech Crunch website, supporting the dual-mode iPhone theory. The logs show data from a new Apple device, using the MNC/MCC codes from both Verizon and AT&T networks.Tech Crunch explains:
«The logs show that the app has been briefly tested by a handful of people using what is almost certainly an iPhone 5, evidently running iOS 5, sporting two distinct sets of mobile network codes (MNC) / mobile country codes (MCC).Those codes can be used to uniquely identify mobile carriers.»
However its also thought that the logs could be from an Apple test unit that has been released into the wild to test the networks.Hopefully within the next couple of months Apple will clear up all the rumours and launch their new update iPhone.

As PEOPLE reported in July, the couple have been house-hunting for a while, but decided to settle into a two-bedroom rental in the Hollywood Hills until they find a permanent haven.
Aniston, 42, moved out of her Beverly Hills spread in July after deciding the home was «too much» for her and it was time to «simplify.» It sold for $38 million.

Since returning from a romantic Hawaiian getaway, the couple has been enjoying time together with friends. On Aug.24, Aniston and Theroux, 40, shared a long dinner with George Lopez at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, and a source tells PEOPLE the couple looked comfortable and affectionate together.

Schools and universities will soon have to check the students before the exams for the presence of blood products that can enhance the brain, experts say.Scientists from the Academy of Medical Sciences reported that preparations for such diseases as Alzheimer's, used by healthy people to improve memory and perception of information by the brain.Researchers led by an expert from the University of Cambridge Neuroscience studied how these drugs affect the mind and brain. It turned out that the drugs have tremendous potential to stimulate the brain.
So today will be 2 weeks that Nathan and I are settling into our new home in Salado, TX.It has been an experience living in «the country.» I almost stepped on a scorpion that mysteriously got in.He did a great job of playing dead, until Nathan helped him reach his ultimate doom.I’ll give it to Nathan, he tried to save the poor creature but he was a squirmer. So he squashed it with a tuperware.В We have created quite a bird habitat in our backyard. We have several bird feeders and baths, so Nature Nathan is in full affect! It is wonderful living in a house! So much space! This weekend we will start hanging pictures and paintings and it should start feeling more like our home.
Yesterday I had my follow up with Dr.Soliman at MDA and everything is healing as it should.В I will continue to see her for follow-ups with my next appointment being end of October.Once Nathan and I get the all clear to get pregnant, I will find a gynecologist in Temple who specializes in high risk pregnancies and they will co-manage with Dr.Soliman.Scott and White is a LARGE facility in Temple and I should have no trouble. So it was a great visit.
We are looking forward to labor day weekend and spending it with family at Lake Livingston. And then end of September Nathan and I head to CA for a wedding of my «little brother» Johnny Serpa.I am so excited!!!В It will be quite the event.В But even before all that, I turn 33 years old on Monday. My thoughtful mother stocked me up with some great gift cards, so I think I shall spend the day shopping in Austin.Anywhere there is air-conditioning!В (I have chosen not to bore you all with weather talk, but we are like on our 70th day of over 100 degrees! And the biggest drought TX has even seen!Ridiculous!) В I had a great time during my visit to CA (and I laughed when my mom said it was hot at 93 degrees.Ok..no more weather talk).В Reese was my little companion and I loved spending time with her.I got to attend one of Jackson’s football practices and he is such a little man!He plays offense and defense.В Luckily Nathan will be able to see one of his games this year.В I also got to spend time with John, my best friend Vanessa’s son.If I knew how to post pictures and videos to this blog I would!(Maybe I’ll investigate that .) The kid is 10 months old and can already swim!В There was also a Minnie Maids reunion with my girls (minus Gina, as she was still in London). The В most exciting moment is when I introduced Reese to the movie Grease 2.Such a great cheese film.Gina, Vanessa, and I grew up watching it even before seeing the original Grease.I would recommend watching it with an open mind. The lyrics of the songs alone are so worth it.
My next mission, besides setting up our house, is finding a job!!!!!I would ideally love something using my degree, but would be open to anything that fits my experience.Salado is a pretty small town, but there are larger towns all around us.There is even a great Christian college nearby called University Mary Hardin Baylor that I’d love to look into.Nathan is loving the short commute to work now and that he can come home for lunch. But I think he is most excited about Direct TV giving us the NFL Sunday Ticket for free!Every single game televised for our enjoyment. And I will enjoy playing the «Name Game» and «Commentator Dirty Talk» with my sister.(Just ask if you would like to join in.)
So our second year living in Texas has already had a great beginning. Our first year had us face many hard life lessons and experiences. However, we felt the Lord guiding us all the way.Sometimes we would be thinking, «Really God?!I mean, really???» And at others times it was- «I put this all in your hands Lord.Give me the strength, peace, and compa*sion that only you can provide.» We are both confident that we are much stronger than we ever thought. So hey .if any of you Texans want to visit The Best Art Town in Texas, come to Salado! We got a blow up bed with your name on it .unless you know of someone wanting to get rid or sell a bed = )
Mixed with alcohol energy drinks can be very dangerous for your health. They can lead to cardiac arrhythmias, seizures and kidney failure, said experts from the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment in Germany.Have already been several deaths. One person died on the arrival of the ambulance after drinking a cocktail of alcohol and energy drinks.Another 18-year-old to concentrate in preparing for the exam for a driver's license for a few days, drank a lot of cans of energy drink. After that, due to cerebral edema and pulmonary collapse had occurred. As reported by German journalists, poison control centers in Germany have information about the undesirable indirect effects of such drinks. However, it must be said that so far have not found out what can be caused by physical injury, and is it really energy drinks are the cause of deaths.Experts advise not to mix energy drinks with alcohol, as well as to abandon their use of children and pregnant women.
