Why does tylenol never work as well as ibuprofen?Doctors always tell me to take tylenol. But it NEVER works for me.The thing that does work is ibuprofen.I take 300-400 mg at least twice a week because of frequent headaches.Doctors always act all shocked that I take so much, but tylenol has never cut it.Why is this?
I asked in the medicine section as well. But parents know everything. And every doctor knows it.Different people react in different ways to different medication. There are people for whom ibuprofen does nothing but tylenol works well.
If you are taking that much you should be looking more seriously at trying to prevent your headaches, though.Ibuprofen really isn't very good for you, not when it's taken frequently.

My doctor always recommends ibuprofen, for my migraines (20+ year sufferer) and inflammation for my carpel tunnel & arthritis.
I take both Advil and Tylenol, not at the same time, but I always have both on hand. I find that if I take Advil it'll work for awhile, but then my body becomes immune to it. Then I'll switch to Tylenol and that will work for awhile. I really need to talk to her about using something else though, nothing works these days. I've had a migraine for almost 2 weeks, it will not go away. Nothing has been working for my joint pain either.
They can both have side effects. Ibuprofen is said to cause nausea (although my nausea comes from the migraines themselves), and using it too much can cause kidney failure or ulcers. Acetaminophen can cause serious liver damage if taken too much.
Darned if you do, darned if you don't.
